We know that students who have lower levels of phonological awareness have an increased risk for reading difficulties. On this day\, we will dive into the teaching of phonological awareness\, phonics\, beginning reading and writing instruction. We will explore the use of both sound walls and word walls. We will compare early leveled readers and decodable texts and discuss the rationale for both. We know that writing is a window to study the students phonological awareness and we will assess student writing samples to make plans for instruction.
