These systems deliver powerful\, research-based intervention designed to bring students up to grade-level performance in as little as 18-24 weeks. The intervention should take place consistently in suggested small groups in addition to classroom literacy instruction to see maximum results. In this workshop\, participants will receive three-days of intensive training (two days of start-up training and one follow-up day) on the LLI Red\, Gold\, Purple and Teal systems and will learn specific strategies to address the needs of older readers who need extra support. In addition to an overview of the components and implementation of LLI Red\, Gold\, Purple and Teal systems\, professional development for these systems delves into the advanced routines needed for intermediate students. These routines include a focus on comprehension\, vocabulary development\, and fluency as well as phonics and word study principles\, book discussion formats\, writing about reading routines\, novel study units\, test taking study\, and silent reading. Must attend all 3 days. Materials not included. Please bring The LLI Red OR Gold OR Purple OR Teal System Guide\, Prompting Guide 1\, Prompting Guide 2\, and one Lesson Guide to use during the seminar. These materials are all included in Box 1 of the LLI materials. There should be 1 system for every 1-2 participants. Eligible for 18 hours CTLE credit. If district pays\, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session. As educators\, we know the importance of choice in reading material to get students actively engaged. This workshop will demonstrate a new kind of discussion-based reading assessment\, one that draws from Socratic Seminar\, Literature Circles\, and Book Clubs. Students choose to read a book from a list of quality contemporary and classic literature and then participate in a structured conversation leading to an understanding of universal themes. The unique feature of the Books of Choice Circles is that the students have all read different books. Also included will be poetry\, editorials\, and informational articles. Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 Consortium seat. If district pays\, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.Registration: :https://www.mylearningplan.com/WebReg/ActivityProfile.asp?D=13208&:I=4319424“ URL:/event/teaching-with-books-of-choice-a-new-kind-of-literature-circle-grades-6-12-in-person-presented-by-amy-benjamin-830-230pm/ LOCATION:NY CATEGORIES:Instructional Support Services Full Calendar END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20230510T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20230510T120000 DTSTAMP:20260415T221708 CREATED:20240111T160423Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240111T160423Z UID:19689-1683709200-1683720000@www.wsboces.org SUMMARY:HMH User Group Meeting - 9-12pm DESCRIPTION:Join a network of Read 180 educators as we form a community to support teachers and elevate student achievement.
