Researchers have found a relationship between instructional practices\, student engagement\, behavioral issues and academic success. When students are frustrated by academic tasks\, this often results in behaviors that interfere with teaching and learning. Participants will learn effective research based instructional strategies that have been shown to increase student engagement and improve success with academic tasks while creating a positive learning environment for all students. Participants will learn how to identify the reasons behind student behaviors triggered by the presentation and completion of academic tasks and then use this information to develop and implement a variety of instructional practices as well as curricular adaptions and modifications that can lead to improved behavior and academic success. Some of the research based strategies to be presented include differentiated instruction\, Universal Design for Learning\, explicit direct instruction and active engagement strategies. Audience: Teachers\, support staff\, administrators Eligible for 12 hours CTLE credit. Can use 2 Consortium seats. If district pays\, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.\nFlyer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_VxS-Kh82CWm_KqeyGv0dKJdCfN_DZYW/view?usp=sharing\nRegistration: https://www.mylearningplan.com/WebReg/ActivityProfile.asp?D=13208&I=5130631 URL:/event/adjusting-instruction-to-address-behavior-2-day-workshop-presented-by-michelle-levy-830-230pm-2/ LOCATION:JEA Alternative School\, 31 Lee Ave\, Wheatley Heights\, NY\, 11798-1837\, United States CATEGORIES:Instructional Support Services Full Calendar END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20260206T083000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20260206T143000 DTSTAMP:20260416T041541 CREATED:20251029T131033Z LAST-MODIFIED:20251029T131033Z UID:24691-1770366600-1770388200@www.wsboces.org SUMMARY:Explore Curriculum\, Instruction\, and Assessment Expectations of the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) for Grades 3-5 Presented by Glen Cochrane-8:30-2:30pm DESCRIPTION:In this full-day workshop\, we will start by reviewing the science standards that outline what students in grades 3-5 are expected to know and be able to do. Teaching and learning are intended to be three-dimensional\, with the Disciplinary Core Ideas (content)\, Science Practices (skills)\, and Crosscutting Concepts (themes) present in all lessons. NYSSLS is designed with progressive expectations across grade bands K-2\, 3-5\, MS\, and HS\, making elementary science a foundation for secondary science. We will review clusters from released Elementary Level Science exams to demonstrate the skills and knowledge students need to succeed on the Grade 5 computer-based tests. Principles of assessment will be included\, along with time for teachers to use assessment tools to develop and evaluate their work. Included will be:-A review of the NYSSLS expectations for curriculum\, instruction\, and student learning for elementary level students;-Using a System of Assessment to evaluate student progression of learning;-Using the Performance Level Descriptions (PLDs) to review how they can be used to review curriculum opportunities for students to learn and how they are aligned to assessment;-Reviewing released item-clusters from the ELS demonstrating alignment to NYSSLS;-Reviewing sample 3D lessons aligned with the NYSSLS; -Comparing curriculum with novel NYSSLS-based assessments.**B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Device) – Participants should bring a fully charged laptop\, Ipad\, or tablet to download resources and access websites throughout the workshop.Eligible for 6 hours CTLE credit. Can use 1 consortium seat.If district pays\, district approval must be confirmed prior to start of session.\nFor full description\, please view flyer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FTdznTaI1XWZVYvJURyiQud3eqvUlUuK/view?usp=sharing\nRegistration: https://www.mylearningplan.com/WebReg/ActivityProfile.asp?D=13208&I=5255303 URL:/event/explore-curriculum-instruction-and-assessment-expectations-of-the-new-york-state-p-12-science-learning-standards-nyssls-for-grades-3-5-presented-by-glen-cochrane-830-230pm/ LOCATION:JEA Alternative School\, 31 Lee Ave\, Wheatley Heights\, NY\, 11798-1837\, United States CATEGORIES:Instructional Support Services Full Calendar END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
